John A. Salig
June 9, 1950-June 30, 2023
John Salig was a very active member of Metropolitan NY AALAS branch. He was busy coming to meetings throughout the 1980’s serving on committees and council, and volunteering so much time to branch activities. He was an ever-present figure at Metro events. He was elected to president in 1990. He is the only Metro NY AALAS member to have served the branch as president for 4 terms! He was president again in 1999, 2007 and in 2008 (serving two consecutive terms).
John worked as the Director of the research animal facility at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, Long Island for many years and after the facility had closed, he worked tirelessly at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in the Laboratory Animal Facility. It is from that facility where John had retired from in 2018. John was still active in the field after retirement volunteering time on several IACUC’s and advisory boards. John was a warm and caring man, a father of five children, an active and happy grandfather, and a loving husband of fifty years to his wife Helen. He was a knowledgeable and caring colleague, a mentor to so many technicians in the branch, an inspiring educator, a true animal advocate, a training professional, and our dear friend.
Metropolitan NY Branch of AALAS will miss him dearly, and he remains forever in our hearts.
A Message from Dr. Fred Quimby, who was a Veterinarian at Rockefeller University for many years, an active Metro member, held Council and Officer positions, was a certification/LAS education advocate, Veterinarian of the Year, and all around mentor to the Metro community. You could always find him and his wife dancing the night away at our past Installation dinners.
"Dear Friends,
It is with great sorrow that I inform you of the passing of Cynthia Claire Connelly Quimby on December 13, 2023 at 3:07AM.
Cynthia was 78 years old and together we spent 58 years devoted to each other and our family.
Cynthia is survived by her husband, Fred and two daughters: Kelly Ann Quimby Catron and Cynthia Jane Quimby Rumsey ( husband Roger); as well as her five grandchildren: Ben and Jack Catron and Addison, Roger and Tony Rumsey.
Together we have a large extended family which we love dearly, as well as a bevy of dear friends.
A celebration of life will be posted in the future.
Fred"
Our thoughts go out to Dr. Quimby and Family.
